Women's Global Justice Org.-pedophiles/parent-child rights
create pdf of this news itemprinter friendly
Womens' Global Justice Org./ Darlene Francis/cbd Media Network/red-searisiing/Sid H

Women's Global Justice Org. was founded Sept. 8 ,2010. by Sid Hingerty and Darlene Francis.

Our goal is to spread awareness throughout the world about all areas of abusive realities. We aim to educate and prevent abusive situations.Especially, in the lives of our children.

With the continuance flow of child abuse cases and the deaths at the hands of pedophiles, who now have far more human right of protection than any of the children as victims. These pedophiles serve nothing near like a strong enough prison sentence for the appalling and perverted crimes they commit against defenseless innocent children.

-Children have been removed from their homes, or as we believe been kidnapped from many 1000s of good parents in "ALL" countries and sold into adoption and without a parent's right to complain or fight. Juries must be included into protection of a child and a parents human rights and we be for the "Will" to fight for those human rights, and for compensation too fir the injustices committed!

-To allow Courts where so many children have been removed or as we believe been kidnapped from many 1000s of good parents in "ALL" countries and sold into adoption and without a parent's right to complain or fight against all persecution, without a jury to see and make fair decisions, and have unjustified laws. Juries must be included into protection of a child and a parents human rights.

: We "Will" fight for those human rights, and for compensation too fir the injustices committed!

All laws that put a child at risk or removal of a parent's human rights to protect their own children . Should be banished.

* Including school girls abortions without a parents human rights or permission.
* Including maintaining those rights. All abolished and all secured

To allow the alternative lifestyles laws to be passed in there entirety 33 different perversions have had to be hidden including pedophilia ,incest , bestiality, and necrophilia.
How dare politicians allow these laws to be passed at the expense of a child's human rights . We "will" fight this with women, children, organizations, and MEN, who believe in a new found future.

* All laws that allow the legalization of sex slavery and the abuse and exploitation of humans "Have" to be changed to protect all human rights.

* All laws that put a child at risk or removal of a parent's human rights to protect their own children . Including school girls abortions without a parents human rights of permission.

Many more human rights laws that fail as victim's human rights but protect their predators have to be fought for .

* We "Will" fight for those human rights "Peacefully and without offense to anyone" ,using only acts of pure love and kindness, and "true facts" to get it done, in a way acceptable to God !!!!

How dare politicians allow these laws to be passed at the expense of a child's human rights .

* We "will" fight against these constitutional injustices with those that were trafficked into the sex trade and "Legally" and "illegally, with out the consent, in advertised magazines and newspapers, massage parlors as escort girls.

* All laws that allow the legalization of sex slavery and the abuse and exploitation of humans, "Have" to be changed to protect all, and their human rights.

prenatal care---Darlene Francis/redsearising/cbdMedia Network/Womens' Global Justice Org.
create pdf of this news itemprinter friendly
Every year, more than half a million women die and untold numbers suffer temporary or long-term disabilities from preventable pregnancy-related causes.
Five complications account for the majority of maternal deaths worldwide:
Severe bleeding (hemorrhage): 25 percent of maternal deaths; Infections: 15 percent; Unsafe abortion: 13 percent; Eclampsia (convulsions in labor due to high blood pressure): 12 percent; Obstructed labor (baby cannot pass through birth canal): 8 percent.
The United Nations Millennium Development Goal 5 (MDG 5)2* sets specific targets for improving maternal health. Many maternal health advocates focus only on maternity care-antenatal care, skilled attendance at delivery, and emergency obstetric services. These are clearly critical services, but maternity care is just one element of the comprehensive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) package needed to achieve MDG 5. The five essential elements of a comprehensive SRH package are: (1) comprehensive sexuality education, (2) access to contraception, (3) safe abortion, (4) maternity care, and (5) diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV. This package of services enables girls and women to decide whether and when to get pregnant, to decide whether to carry a pregnancy to term, and to experience pregnancy and childbirth safely.

* The goal of MDG 5 is to improve maternal health and achieve universal access to reproductive health care by 2015 by reducing the maternal mortality ratio and increasing the proportion of births attended by skilled health personnel. Achieving universal access to reproductive health is measured by: (1) contraceptive prevalence rate; (2) adolescent birth rate; (3) antenatal care coverage (at least one visit and at least four visits); and (4) unmet need for family planning. My name is Darlene Francis. I am originally from Texas. I am 45 years old.
I am a mother of two wonderful boys that I am very proud of. My children are twenty - one and sixteen. I enrolled my oldest son in college when he was just sixteen. My youngest son is home-schooled and he is planning to enlist in the Army.
I am a book-keeper by profession. I am a writer of poetry /lyricist, also currently writing two books, and I have also written for Cancer Monthly magazine. That was an article about a survival guide , and for the Rhio O'Connor foundation, this essay was published in the book written by Paul Kraus , and titled Mesothelioma
"A Patient's Guide" I study herbal medicine and I am a spiritual healer/ specializing in Raeke healing. I also volunteer for The Leukemia Foundation, Hospice,
and the Family YMCA-where I have assisted as a personal trainer for many years working with the disabled and children. I am also a member of over One hundred and fifty charitable non profit organizations and a huge activist, and work the good of mankind. I am a full -time fundraiser for my own non-profits organizations.

Rock The Silence was founded in May onf2010, and the concept behind these events are basically for supporting abuse. ANY of all kinds. ANY and all causes.
ANY of all charitable and non-profit organizations are welcome. NO one is denied.

A recycling day for all Humanity. A day to be creative. A day of hope. A day to remember!

A dream to make a difference. A dream to seek change. A dream to save lives. A dream for our future.

I was inspired to create these events due to my research, the more I researched, the more I knew in my heart that I had to do something. One thing lead to
another. Before I knew it, my angels had lead the way to global events world/wide, based on originality, variety, and choice. Encouraging support for victims. Encouraging hope and offering opportunity in the lives of those victims, especially the lives of innocent children and defenseless animals.

These events are for the innocent and in their honor, speaking on their behalf, in their honor, in the respect of those that are no longer with us, due to tragic nature.
These events are to educate and to spread awareness. To offer support and opportunity and therapeutic recovery for victims.

Now my research has led me to opportunity myself to speak in huge ways, to actually make a huge difference in lives of others, as I have written laws to make change along my journey. Those laws and many others , along with many others,. will be attending the ralley in April at the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington ,DC.

Rock The Silence to break the cycle of history. Rock to the 21st Century movement.

No charity will be left out, all are welcome. (ANY CHARITY) . We are asking that you collect for the the good of all humanity and the earth aluminum, that will raise funds for charities all across our awesome globe. Also anything that will clean up this world. To make this day enjoyable and rewarding we are including entertainment concerts all day, as well as a variety of entertainment. So we hope you will volunteer your time, help organize events, offer what ever talent you can bring to the events, or even help sponsor the events.

We are looking for people to organization or to host recycling events in these countries listed below in our confirmations. There will be many more scheduled. Please contact one of our associates also listed below for more details and legalities.

* Our goal is to educate the children on how important it is to make a difference on the planet and in the lives of others. To offer therapeutic recovery and hope to victims and children. We also wish to spread awareness and offer all support in every area of abuse. And to include the children as much as possible at the events, from collecting recyclables to talent.

o These world - wide global recycling (events) are focused to speak out and to reach out for the innocent in their honor
o These world - wide global recycling (events) are for all Humanity and the future of our children.

* For all charities - For all non-profit organizations

Rock The Silence-Rock Against abuse is focused on all and every kind of reason and cause. From bullying, eating disorders, homeless, war- vets, poverty, disaster victims, child abuse, domestic abuse and or assault, HIV and diseases, including cancer due to emotional stress and chemicals in our food and water. There are many other reasons of abuse. We support them all.
Rock The Silence-Rock The silence has the potential of raising a phenomenal amount of dollars for charity simply by recycling.

* We could purify the air in which we live and breathe

* We have the knowledge- WE have the factories

There are no excuses for Environmental Neglect
* Did you know that approximately 500 billion cans of aluminum, are not recycled every year?
•Plastic bags are petroleum-based and do not biodegrade. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency. Americans use more than 380 billion plastic bags and wraps each year. Less than 5% of plastics are recycled worldwide!
•Sea turtles and other murine creatures mistake ocean debris as food and consume it, causing them death. Plastic toxins end up inside the fish, which end up inside our bodies.

There are no excuses for Child Neglect
* Did you know there is a report of child abuse made every ten seconds?

* Almost five children die everyday as a result of child abuse. More than three out of four are under the age of 4
* About 30% of abused and neglected children will later abuse their own children.

* 74.3% of high school students have tried alcohol.
* In a recent study, 77% of the students said they had been bullied. And 14% of those who were bullied said they experienced severe (bad) reactions to the abuse.
* 3.1 million teenagers smoke, according to the American Lung Association.
* The average age of entry into the sex trade in the between 11 and 12 years old.

-Fact a DWI offender gets a stronger punishment than a child molester

There are no excuses for Animal Neglect
* Did you know our exotic creatures have become endangered and on the verge of extinction all because of the every day torture and brutal killings. They are slaughtered simply just for the heck of it, skinned alive for their furs, and slain for their tusks for monetary value or accessories. Even worse, the manufacturing of human consumption, which is sickening. Not to mention, the conduction of scientific experiments and the animal fights which are barbaric. Including the seal, dolphin, and whale hunts that are destroying our murine life.
-Fact a first time animal abuse offender is only a misdemeanor.

Rock The Silence Is A Day Of Hope
* We feel the children look up to entertainers, artists, and consider them as role models and offer inspiration in positive aspects.
* We feel the children and the innocent need something to look forward to when their lives have been so tragic, and we wish to offer them opportunity, and therapeutic light on this day of blessing to shine that light in their eyes and offer hope to change their life.

The Rockstar Energey Drink Uproar Festival in Salt Lake City 9/15/2010 Concert Review

The Rockstar Energey Drink Uproar Festival in Salt Lake City 9/15/2010

Hello Everyone,

James here to talk about the "The Rockstar Energey Drink Uproar Festival in Salt Lake City."

I have not seen any reviews on the internet about the concert yet so I thought I would write my own review. Well, The first story is that I could noy make it on time to see "Rikshaw" (Sorry Guys!) I was standing in line as we got there a little late. We arrived at around 3:20pm and the gates were already open and we could hear Rikshaw playing as we went in. The line was backed up all the way across the parking lot which is a huge lot. We finally arrived.

Once we reached the first stage. "The Jagermeister Stage" we found ourselves in the middle of "Hail the Villian" set. I was very impresed. The sound was good we could hear everything and this band was off the hook! The chops were there the band was in synch and they were just having a great time. The vocalist was more animated than any vocalist I have seen in a long time. Loud Proud and in the crowds face. In all this is a very well rounded band with a take no prisoner's attitude. By far one of the best bands on the tour at our stop. I put them in the top 3 band's on the tour from my taste of music anyway.

Next up after waiting for the stage change was "Airbourne" These guys had some great energy and the Bass player was all over the place. These guys have that vintage rock sound and attitude. They put off a lot of energy. However, The band was burdened with many technical difficulties. Guitar's going out in the middle of the show. At least three malfunctions that I saw. The crowd really got into this band and the band really loves the crowd. A good time was had here despite the technical issues they were having.

"Hell Yeah" was pretty much what we have seen in their video's having a good time. They left us with a nice message. "This is your day!" The vocalist said.. He's right it was our day and we had great fun.  We really enjoyed the "Hell Yeah" saong as well as "Cowboy Way". We stayed just long enough to hear most of their songs but had to get running to the main stage of the festival. We missed one of my favorite songs But I am also a huge "Halestorm" so we had to run Sorry guy's! It was mentioned later that some of our friend's stayed and got to have nice little chat with a few of the guys in "Hell Yeah"

So on to the main stage we went. "Halestorm" was already playing and we found out that we missed half of the set. "BUMMER!" Well, Lizzy can really sing. I think she was one of my 3 favorite vocalist's for the day.  We got there just in time for my favorite song from "Halestorm" wich is "What were you expectine?" As I said Lizzy can really sing and she was belting it out. She give all the guys a run for their money. I'm not sure but I do believe she is the only female artist on the tour. What's up with that? The band was very tight and played very well. The Drummer ROCKS!

"Stone Sour"  I have been a huge fan of "Stone Sour" for year I really like "Made of Scars" and "Your God" Corey Taylor. These guys were definately on their game. They have a lot of great tunes. Corey Taylor has a very sincere voice and is able to portrait every emotion. There is an extreme presesnce as well as a stage presence from this band. Corey got the crowd going as he usually does. I still have not heard anything about "Slipknot" Staying together or seperating. If anyone has any news please let me know.

"Avenged Sevenfold" This band was by far my favorite band of the night. They opened up with nightmare and this band was on FIRE! Literally! The stage started out nice and dark and they went right into the fire and pyrotechnics. The kid's standing around close to where I was started a mosh pit. The mosh pit's are not what they used to be. Now it's just the little kid's now day's I guess I can say that because I'm a big guy. I was amazed by every song that "AX7" did. The whole band was very tight and very rehearsed. They played many songs past and present. They had a nice tribute to their drummer who had passed away over the recent year's. I am in a band my self and witnessed one of the best performances of my life. I was not an "Avenged Sevenfold" fan when I got there but they got two thumbs up from me and my girlfriend. We listen to a lot of music from a lot of band's. We are new fan's of "AX7" now. This is by far the best band I have ever seen live. I'm looking forward to seeing them again.

"Disturbed" The head liners. I have been a "Disturbed" fan for many years going back to 2001. I even have some rare recordings I have not heard on any of their albums. The band was full of energy. They had a huge JumboTRON you could see close up of the band. We were far enough away that we could not see much of what was going on all day. The background's changed for individual songs and the crowd was shown in some of the shots's. However, When the show first started there was a huge loss of the guitar signal and it did not cut through. I think someone noticed this because after the 3rd song the guitar was coming though great. David the vocalist was too loud in the mix with no effects and it was just dry and loud. I think these guys need to spend some time on their live mix. However, The music was enough to get my old ass out into the mosh pit. Funny as it may sound they did get me going and I had few great moments in the pit and got my ass out of there. The kid's like to cheap shot you now day's and push you down face first. The little bastard's. All in all it was a great show.

"Brief Overview" All in all this was the best concert of the year out here in Salt Lake City, Utah. I liked all aspects of the concert it was pretty much an all day event starting at 3:00pm so it was the hottest part of the day. The line was the most entertaining. The people watching and running into old friends that we had not seen in years. It was hard to find water at first because we had never been to the Usana Ampatheater. Having the two stages there they needed water up at the top of the hill but they didn't They took our water caps from our bottle's saying the band's wanted them taken away so people would not throw them at the stage. As usually security can be a bummer sometimes. It's hard to carry 6 water bottles with no cap's by the way. "THANKS MANAGEMENT!" On a final note to all the concert goers. These festival concerts are great. but if youke up in your 40's and out of shape you better pace your self.

The Problem With Music by Steve Albini
create pdf of this news itemprinter friendly

This oft-referenced article is from the early '90s, and originally appeared in Maximum Rock 'n' Roll magazine. While some of the information and figures listed here are dated, it is still a useful and informative article. And no, we don't know how to reach Steve Albini. -Negativland The Problem With Music
by Steve Albini
Whenever I talk to a band who are about to sign with a major label, I always end up thinking of them in a particular context. I imagine a trench, about four feet wide and five feet deep, maybe sixty yards long, filled with runny, decaying shit. I imagine these people, some of them good friends, some of them barely acquaintances, at one end of this trench. I also imagine a faceless industry lackey at the other end holding a fountain pen and a contract waiting to be signed. Nobody can see what's printed on the contract. It's too far away, and besides, the shit stench is making everybody's eyes water. The lackey shouts to everybody that the first one to swim the trench gets to sign the contract. Everybody dives in the trench and they struggle furiously to get to the other end. Two people arrive simultaneously and begin wrestling furiously, clawing each other and dunking each other under the shit. Eventually, one of them capitulates, and there's only one contestant left. He reaches for the pen, but the Lackey says "Actually, I think you need a little more development. Swim again, please. Backstroke". And he does of course. Every major label involved in the hunt for new bands now has on staff a high-profile point man, an "A & R" rep who can present a comfortable face to any prospective band. The initials stand for "Artist and Repertoire." because historically, the A & R staff would select artists to record music that they had also selected, out of an available pool of each. This is still the case, though not openly. These guys are universally young [about the same age as the bands being wooed], and nowadays they always have some obvious underground rock credibility flag they can wave. Lyle Preslar, former guitarist for Minor Threat, is one of them. Terry Tolkin, former NY independent booking agent and assistant manager at Touch and Go is one of them. Al Smith, former soundman at CBGB is one of them. Mike Gitter, former editor of XXX fanzine and contributor to Rip, Kerrang and other lowbrow rags is one of them. Many of the annoying turds who used to staff college radio stations are in their ranks as well. There are several reasons A & R scouts are always young. The explanation usually copped-to is that the scout will be "hip to the current musical "scene." A more important reason is that the bands will intuitively trust someone they think is a peer, and who speaks fondly of the same formative rock and roll experiences. The A & R person is the first person to make contact with the band, and as such is the first person to promise them the moon. Who better to promise them the moon than an idealistic young turk who expects to be calling the shots in a few years, and who has had no previous experience with a big record company. Hell, he's as naive as the band he's duping. When he tells them no one will interfere in their creative process, he probably even believes it. When he sits down with the band for the first time, over a plate of angel hair pasta, he can tell them with all sincerity that when they sign with company X, they're really signing with him and he's on their side. Remember that great gig I saw you at in '85? Didn't we have a blast. By now all rock bands are wise enough to be suspicious of music industry scum. There is a pervasive caricature in popular culture of a portly, middle aged ex-hipster talking a mile-a-minute, using outdated jargon and calling everybody "baby." After meeting "their" A & R guy, the band will say to themselves and everyone else, "He's not like a record company guy at all! He's like one of us." And they will be right. That's one of the reasons he was hired. These A & R guys are not allowed to write contracts. What they do is present the band with a letter of intent, or "deal memo," which loosely states some terms, and affirms that the band will sign with the label once a contract has been agreed on. The spookiest thing about this harmless sounding little memo, is that it is, for all legal purposes, a binding document. That is, once the band signs it, they are under obligation to conclude a deal with the label. If the label presents them with a contract that the band don't want to sign, all the label has to do is wait. There are a hundred other bands willing to sign the exact same contract, so the label is in a position of strength. These letters never have any terms of expiration, so the band remain bound by the deal memo until a contract is signed, no matter how long that takes. The band cannot sign to another laborer or even put out its own material unless they are released from their agreement, which never happens. Make no mistake about it: once a band has signed a letter of intent, they will either eventually sign a contract that suits the label or they will be destroyed. One of my favorite bands was held hostage for the better part of two years by a slick young "He's not like a label guy at all," A & R rep, on the basis of such a deal memo. He had failed to come through on any of his promises [something he did with similar effect to another well-known band], and so the band wanted out. Another label expressed interest, but when the A & R man was asked to release the band, he said he would need money or points, or possibly both, before he would consider it. The new label was afraid the price would be too dear, and they said no thanks. On the cusp of making their signature album, an excellent band, humiliated, broke up from the stress and the many months of inactivity. There's this band. They're pretty ordinary, but they're also pretty good, so they've attracted some attention. They're signed to a moderate-sized "independent" label owned by a distribution company, and they have another two albums owed to the label. They're a little ambitious. They'd like to get signed by a major label so they can have some security you know, get some good equipment, tour in a proper tour bus -- nothing fancy, just a little reward for all the hard work. To that end, they got a manager. He knows some of the label guys, and he can shop their next project to all the right people. He takes his cut, sure, but it's only 15%, and if he can get them signed then it's money well spent. Anyways, it doesn't cost them anything if it doesn't work. 15% of nothing isn't much! One day an A & R scout calls them, says he's 'been following them for a while now, and when their manager mentioned them to him, it just "clicked." Would they like to meet with him about the possibility of working out a deal with his label? Wow. Big Break time. They meet the guy, and y'know what -- he's not what they expected from a label guy. He's young and dresses pretty much like the band does. He knows all their favorite bands. He's like one of them. He tells them he wants to go to bat for them, to try to get them everything they want. He says anything is possible with the right attitude. They conclude the evening by taking home a copy of a deal memo they wrote out and signed on the spot. The A & R guy was full of great ideas, even talked about using a name producer. Butch Vig is out of the question-he wants 100 g's and three points, but they can get Don Fleming for $30,000 plus three points. Even that's a little steep, so maybe they'll go with that guy who used to be in David Letterman's band. He only wants three points. Or they can have just anybody record it (like Warton Tiers, maybe-- cost you 5 or 7 grand] and have Andy Wallace remix it for 4 grand a track plus 2 points. It was a lot to think about. Well, they like this guy and they trust him. Besides, they already signed the deal memo. He must have been serious about wanting them to sign. They break the news to their current label, and the label manager says he wants them to succeed, so they have his blessing. He will need to be compensated, of course, for the remaining albums left on their contract, but he'll work it out with the label himself. Sub Pop made millions from selling off Nirvana, and Twin Tone hasn't done bad either: 50 grand for the Babes and 60 grand for the Poster Children-- without having to sell a single additional record. It'll be something modest. The new label doesn't mind, so long as it's recoupable out of royalties. Well, they get the final contract, and it's not quite what they expected. They figure it's better to be safe than sorry and they turn it over to a lawyer--one who says he's experienced in entertainment law and he hammers out a few bugs. They're still not sure about it, but the lawyer says he's seen a lot of contracts, and theirs is pretty good. They'll be great royalty: 13% [less a 1O% packaging deduction]. Wasn't it Buffalo Tom that were only getting 12% less 10? Whatever. The old label only wants 50 grand, an no points. Hell, Sub Pop got 3 points when they let Nirvana go. They're signed for four years, with options on each year, for a total of over a million dollars! That's a lot of money in any man's English. The first year's advance alone is $250,000. Just think about it, a quarter million, just for being in a rock band! Their manager thinks it's a great deal, especially the large advance. Besides, he knows a publishing company that will take the band on if they get signed, and even give them an advance of 20 grand, so they'll be making that money too. The manager says publishing is pretty mysterious, and nobody really knows where all the money comes from, but the lawyer can look that contract over too. Hell, it's free money. Their booking agent is excited about the band signing to a major. He says they can maybe average $1,000 or $2,000 a night from now on. That's enough to justify a five week tour, and with tour support, they can use a proper crew, buy some good equipment and even get a tour bus! Buses are pretty expensive, but if you figure in the price of a hotel room for everybody In the band and crew, they're actually about the same cost. Some bands like Therapy? and Sloan and Stereolab use buses on their tours even when they're getting paid only a couple hundred bucks a night, and this tour should earn at least a grand or two every night. It'll be worth it. The band will be more comfortable and will play better. The agent says a band on a major label can get a merchandising company to pay them an advance on T-shirt sales! ridiculous! There's a gold mine here! The lawyer Should look over the merchandising contract, just to be safe. They get drunk at the signing party. Polaroids are taken and everybody looks thrilled. The label picked them up in a limo. They decided to go with the producer who used to be in Letterman's band. He had these technicians come in and tune the drums for them and tweak their amps and guitars. He had a guy bring in a slew of expensive old "vintage" microphones. Boy, were they "warm." He even had a guy come in and check the phase of all the equipment in the control room! Boy, was he professional. He used a bunch of equipment on them and by the end of it, they all agreed that it sounded very "punchy," yet "warm." All that hard work paid off. With the help of a video, the album went like hotcakes! They sold a quarter million copies! Here is the math that will explain just how fucked they are: These figures are representative of amounts that appear in record contracts daily. There's no need to skew the figures to make the scenario look bad, since real-life examples more than abound. income is bold and underlined, expenses are not.

Band member net income each: $ 4,031.25
The band is now 1/4 of the way through its contract, has made the music industry more than 3 million dollars richer, but is in the hole $14,000 on royalties. The band members have each earned about 1/3 as much as they would working at a 7-11, but they got to ride in a tour bus for a month. The next album will be about the same, except that the record company will insist they spend more time and money on it. Since the previous one never "recouped," the band will have no leverage, and will oblige. The next tour will be about the same, except the merchandising advance will have already been paid, and the band, strangely enough, won't have earned any royalties from their T-shirts yet. Maybe the T-shirt guys have figured out how to count money like record company guys. Some of your friends are probably already this fucked. Steve Albini is an independent and corporate rock record producer most widely known for having produced Nirvana's "In Utero".

An ultralight, gas-powered car that can get 102 miles per gallon is among the winners of the $10 million Automotive X Prize, a contest to develop highly efficient, production-ready vehicles. While it's not likely to go on sale in its current form, Edison2's "Very Light Car No. 98" was cited for its innovative use of lightweight materials, its superior aerodynamics and its very low production cost. Oliver Kuttner, the founder of Lynchburg, Va.-based Edison2, said his target price is $20,000. The "Very Light Car No. 98" seats four and is built on a steel frame of mostly aluminum parts. That keeps the weight at 830 pounds, around a quarter of the weight of an average car. It has a space-age, race car look and a tear drop shape, with the wheels set far out from the car to help deflect crashes. Kuttner, a real-estate developer and race-car driver, said a team of around 100 people _ including many racing veterans _ developed the car. They opted for a one-cylinder, ethanol-capable engine instead of an electric car because batteries add weight and gas is readily available. But the team said its innovations in aerodynamics and the use of lightweight materials could apply to any kind of vehicle. "We've been working on these types of solutions, really, all our lives," Kuttner said. "In racing, fuel is a precious resource. One less pit stop is the difference between winning and losing." Edison2 won $5 million, the bulk of the prize money. Kuttner said Edison2 spent more than that to develop the car, but we wouldn't give an exact figure. Some of the prize money will go into development of the next generation light car, Kuttner said. He said the team is now focused on making the car more consumer-friendly and "easier on the eyes" but without adding to its weight or hurting its fuel economy. Once Edison2 is convinced the car is ready, Kuttner plans to find partners to manufacture and distribute it. Two other car makers will split $2.5 million each: Mooresville, N.C.-based Li-Ion Motors Corp., which made the Wave2, a two-seat electric car that gets 187 miles on a charge, and X-Tracer Team of Winterthur, Switzerland, whose motorcycle-like electric mini-car, the E-Tracer 7009, gets 205 miles on a charge. Both of those companies are taking orders for their cars. X-Tracer Team says the electric E-Tracer will be available to U.S. consumers next year. The X Prize, which is funded by Progressive Insurance, gave 111 teams 30 months to develop their vehicles and then put them through driving, safety and efficiency tests. All of the winners are now eligible for a U.S. Department of Energy program that will help ready the vehicles for introduction to the U.S. market.
